Public transport

Switzerland is known for its extraordinarily dense public transport network. This means that you can generally reach your place of work or study easily by public transport. Ticket prices for individual journeys are, however, relatively high. For this reason, it may be worth obtaining a half-fare travelcard from Schweizerische Bundes Bahnen (SBB). This reduces the price for the majority of modes of public transport by half.

For frequent travellers, there is the option of taking out a GA travelcard. This allows you to travel freely on virtually all modes of public transport in Switzerland. Other types of travelcard and discount can be found on the website of the Schweizerische Bundes Bahnen.

Discover Switzerland by train

Buy a day ticket and travel through Switzerland by train. Go for brunch by Lake Lugano in Ticino, then travel via Lucerne to Basel or St. Gallen. Taking the train gives you wonderful views, and allows you to experience Switzerland’s varied landscape from another, new perspective.

Municipality day ticket

Ask your municipality for an SBB day ticket. They often issue such tickets for a very attractive price.
